We all know that networking is an essential part of business, and one great way to network in our community is through membership with EWI Detroit-Windsor. EWI is an organization that offers the opportunity to promote your business, to develop the leadership and professional skills of one or more of your employees, and to engage with the community in support of education and literacy. EWI has chapters across the U.S. and Canada, with Detroit-Windsor being the only one that spans both sides of the border (the meetings switch sides each month).

Partnering with Bridgepointe and the Dominican Literacy Center, among other sponsors, the local EWI chapter promotes literacy through an annual Reading Rally. The event is held both at an elementary school in Detroit and one in Windsor. EWI representatives and event volunteers engage directly with the school children to show the fun and value of reading, while also giving each student a “goodie” bag to take home, containing books, mittens, hat and various other items they otherwise may not have access to.

EWI Detroit-Windsor promotes education through a locally funded scholarship awards program, Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST). Applicants for this program are carefully evaluated, and once chosen as a recipient by the Detroit-Windsor Chapter, will then become a candidate for one of the twelve EWI Corporate ASIST scholarships.
